Child Sponsorship 2017-07-12T23:17:49+00:00

It is estimated that between 10,000 and 12,000 children are trafficked each year from Nepal to India into the sex industry.

This is slavery. It is the control of a child’s body for their labour. Slavery is a powerful force. It is an attack from the enemy on humanity. It is rife and it is real. In fact, there are more slaves on this earth today than ever before. Thankfully, with your donations and support we are rallying against this barbaric force. Join the fight. Help prevent slavery and support at-risk children Nepal.

There are two types of sponsorships that we provide – Hostel Sponsorships and Education Sponsorships.

You can help by

Hostel Sponsorships

These sponsorships invest in the lives of orphaned and abandoned children at risk of trafficking, slavery and abuse.

Education Sponsorships

Did you know that approximately 30% of Nepali children do not receive an education because of extreme poverty?

You can help break this cycle by investing in an education sponsorship.

There are three criteria we use to assess each child’s eligibility for sponsorship

Enak’s Story:

Enak’s mother was not married when Enak was born. When she did marry, her husband did not want the responsibility of caring for Enak. Enak’s mother was forced to make a decision – choose her new husband or her son. Enak’s mother chose to stay with her husband and abandoned Enak. Sadly this is a common occurrence in Nepal where very often, men do not want to take on the responsibility of raising children who are not their own. Many women in these situations make the heart breaking decision to leave their children, usually in the care of other villagers or the local pastor. Sadly, we have even heard cases of children being left on the side of the road.

Fortunately, Enak was taken in by a local pastor. Now he is part of a loving, family environment. He is passionate about sport and says he wants to be a church planter in the remote areas of Nepal when he finishes his studies. It is a privilege to facilitate a hostel sponsorship for Enak. And its one of the ways IMM is actually making a difference.

If children like Enak do not have the opportunity to live in a hostel, they would be left wandering the streets, becoming susceptible to unimaginable abuse and neglect. Pastors in Nepal believe that the local church should be a strong advocate for social justice, hence, they often take orphaned and abandoned children into their homes and establish a small orphanage. They are registered with the government and have court orders allowing the children to be in their care. It is these types of hostels that IMM supports – small, loving, family environments. We personally visit these hostels twice each year, so we see the difference it makes on the children’s welfare and academic progress. For only $40 per month ($10 per week) you can help provide a safe, loving, family environment for an orphaned or abandoned child. That’s less than two coffees per week for a life saved.

Education Sponsorships

Did you know that approximately 30% of Nepali children do not receive an education because of extreme poverty? You can help break this cycle by investing in an education sponsorship. For as little as $30 per month you can invest in a child’s education and help change their future.

Sohan’s Story:

Sohan’s parents died when he was 3 years old. He lives with his paternal grandfather. They live in a tiny hut and struggle to survive – literally. When we met Sohan’s grandfather he told us that for many months he had been crying out to God to help them. When we told him we would take Sohan into our sponsorship program, the man began to weep. Over and over he kept saying, God heard my prayer, God heard my prayer. Now, Sohan will be able to continue his education and his grandfather can rest assured he will have a bright future ahead.

Education sponsorships are for community children just like Sohan who live with a parent or carer who are unable to put food on the table. Funds go directly to the school to pay for education costs and to provide one hot meal each day for the sponsored child. Imagine that. A child looking forward to going to school everyday knowing he’ll have a hot meal waiting there to greet him. Additionally, community children and their families are also connected with their local church—with whom IMM is directly affiliated. This means the family will receive ongoing pastoral support for the duration of the sponsorship. You’ll not only be putting food in a child’s belly, improving their education and their future, but you’ll ensure they have the option of choosing Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
